Alps Trip 2019: Innsbruck

Our view from the Hotel Seelos in Seefeld is lovely. Before we board our coach to Innsbruck, I take a photo:

This fun sculpture is in the hotel's yard:

The drive begins with a slog up a steep, crowded road. Once again, the views are lovely.

A trip back down the mountain brings us to Innsbruck, where we disembark.

The coach has let us off at a park.

A local guide meets us at the park and takes us on a tour of Innsbruck proper. First we come to a large old building that is used for government business.

We pass a theater, and there is classical music coming through loudspeakers. We note this spot as this is where we will meet our tour guide in several hours.

We follow our guide through a tunnel in the buildings:

And then - here we are in the heart of the old part of Innsbruck. Note the colors of the buildings. In Austria, only certain building colors are allowed, and certain types of architecture.

The river “Inn” in Innsbruck was flooding its banks, making our travel plans for the next day worrysome. Some of the car and pedestrian bridges over the river were closed. They were moving big barriers to protect low-lying streets in Innsbruck.

Now, we go up those mountains in the above photo, the Nordkette range. We board a cable car and start the steep trip up.

Part way up, we switch to a different cable car.

Eventually we travel back to Seefeld and our hotel. We have a special dinner treat tonight: our guide has arranged horse-drawn carriages to take us along a green path to a remote restaurant. I loved the clop-clop of the carriage and the meal was great too.

Back at our hotel, we again enjoyed the view from the balcony, including a rainbow.
